Nov 20, 1947: Then then Princess Elizabeth marries Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey. The future Queen has to use ration coupons to buy the material for her wedding dress, designed by Norman Hartnell.
November 14, 1948: Prince Charles, the couple’s first child, is born at Buckingham Palace.
August 15, 1950: Princess Anne is born at Clarence House.
February 6, 1952: Princess Elizabeth becomes Queen Elizabeth II on the death of her father, George VI. The news brings an early end to Philip’s distinguished naval career as he devotes himself to the job of consort to the Queen.
June 2, 1953: The Queen is crowned at Westminster Abbey.
2012.11.20 is the 65th wedding anniversary.
The beautiful WEDDING gown, designed by Normal Hartnell, was made of ivory duchess satin and decorated with around 10,000 white pearls imported from America, silver thread and tulle embroidery.
Her bridal ensemble also included a 15-foot patterned full court train attached at the shoulders, and a silk tulle veil held in place by a tiara lent to the princess by her mother.
On her feet, the Queen wore ivory duchess satin high heels, embellished with silver and pearls.
